Wisconsin’s Must See Destinations

Updated: Nov 17, 2020

Being from Wisconsin, sometimes I forgot how beautiful the state is. There are so many places I absolutely love and I dive into these destinations in this post.

Happy Fall Everyone! This week has felt more like summer than fall, and I am trying to enjoy every bit of warmth we have left. Being here in Minnesota, you never know when snow will come so these warm days are special around this time of the year! A few weeks back, Vince and I were able to go on a small adventure to Wisconsin. I have never heard of Willow River State Park, and it was such a beautiful and special place. It made me think of the beautiful outdoor places in Wisconsin that I really love, so I wanted to write about them :)

The Memorial Union Terrace - Madison, WI

I wrote about Madison before and you can find that blog post here :) It is such a special place to me because I grew up so close to there, and there is so much beauty all over the city. Madison is a city sandwiched between two lakes; Lake Monona and Lake Mendota. The pictures above are take at the Memorial Union Terrace at Lake Mendota. This is my favorite place to be in all of Madison. It is one of the union centers for the University of Wisconsin, but many people go here on a Friday night to hear live music and beer, or for some of the best ice cream Madison has to offer. Lastly, the chairs at the terrace are iconic for their flower shaped cut out, as shown above :) It is just such a unique place, and I have shared so many great memories with family and friends there!

Lake Superior - Port Wing, WI

A few years back, I visited my best friend’s home town, Port Wing, Wisconsin. Being from a bigger city, and going to visit a place where she graduated with just 9 other people was such a fun experience. It was nice to get away for a weekend with not a whole lot of service and spend time with her and her family. I fell in love with the scenery here. Port Wing is in the verrrry northern part of Wisconsin, and sits right on Lake Superior. It makes for beautiful sunsets and fun boat rides. Lastly, there was a beautiful waterfall, Twin Falls, that is worth making the short walk for. Northern Wisconsin has so many beautiful places, but this has to be my favorite. I loved the small hometown feel, and you can’t get sick of the amazing views.

University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire Campus - Eau Claire, WI

Eau Claire has such a special place in my heart. A fun fact is that both my parents, both my siblings, and I all went to the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire for college. I’m biased, but it is one of the most beautiful campuses I have ever seen. Sitting next to the Chippewa River, there are so many beautiful views that never get old. Students walk across a bridge to get get to classes, there is a creek that runs through the buildings of classes, and the picture on the far right was my view on my way home from classes each day. If you are ever in Wisconsin, I highly recommend visiting Eau Claire for its unique views and unique personality. However if you are going to do so, visit during the summer.. Eau Claire is ranked the 5th coldest city in the U.S. :D

These are three of my favorite places to visit in Wisconsin. I could go on and on about many more places that I really enjoy, like Milwaukee and Green Bay. However, these three places stuck out to me due to the ability to get outside and enjoy their beauty. For me, nothing compares to summer nights in these beautiful places. You have to experience it for yourself to see how special it really is :)
