Luau Of A Lifetime

The Aha'aina Wailea, A grand Wailea Luau on the island of Maui is the perfect Hawaii experience for anyone who is visiting.

I had the most awesome opportunity to visit Hawaii over Christmas with my boyfriend, Vince and his family. It was my first time on the islands, and I was so excited to see what was in store. My week was spent experiencing the local culture on the island of Maui. The only things I knew about Hawaii were from the show Hawaii 5-0 (a show I would watch a lot with my parents in high school) and that they have luaus. I was looking forward to seeing what these famous luaus were all about.

I told Vince this was the one thing that I would really like to do while we were there. He had been to Hawaii a couple times before and was able to go to a couple luaus already and seemed a little skeptical going to one because of his prior experiences, so I did a lot of research on the best one. I found one at the Grand Wailea hotel called "Aha'aina Wailea, A grand Wailea Luau".

We arrived to be greeted with a free valet service for our car and entered a spectacular hotel which we were in complete awe of. We walked around the property to see what it was like, and it was high class. We looked up the cheapest hotel room and it was $900 a night (!!). We made it to the luau and the service was top of the line and everyone made us feel so welcome. We had to wait in line to get in for a while, but there was a man playing a ukulele and a lady was dancing. It was the exact thing I pictured a luau to be like. We got in and were welcomed with a lei, a picture with a few Hawaiians, and an alcoholic drink. All the drinks were on the house! We were taken to our table and were informed it was buffet style food, which I thought was great because people could take as much as they wanted of whatever they wanted. The food was wonderful, and I really enjoyed the dessert bar they had after (I am all about the desserts!).

The show began after dinner and we stayed for about half before it started to rain hard. Forewarning, in my opinion the show was average. I mean I really enjoyed it, but the performers were college aged kids that don't fit your normal thoughts about what the performers look like. Vince mentioned at the other luaus he had been to on the other islands, the performers were better. However, I enjoyed watching their dances since we weren't able to stay the whole time we can't judge the entire show.

The cost is a little higher than other luaus on the island, but not by much, and for the quality of the luau it is highly worth paying a little bit more. I have provided a link comparing the various luaus on the island of Maui. It shows the best family friendly luau, best views, most luxurious, etc. However, this luau fits every single one of those categories. If you are looking for a luau on Maui, you must go to this one!
